Teacher & Performer K.S. Resmi is a renowned Carnatic vocalist, former full-time tenured Assistant Professor at the Department of Indian Music, University of Madras, educator, music producer, founder of KARMA Inc., and performer with over three decades of expertise in South Indian classical music. Her dedication to teaching and performing has enriched the global appreciation of Indian classical arts.

K S Resmi holds a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in South Indian Classical Vocal Music Performance from the University of Kerala. Her distinguished teaching career spans over two decades, with notable appointments including: Tenured Faculty Member, University of Madras (2004-2007), Faculty Member, Sangeetha Bharathi – Malabar Gopalan Nair Memorial Music and Research Center, Kerala (1995-2004),Visiting Faculty, University of Maryland, Towson University Goucher College, Hood College, Gettysburg College, University of Denver, Delaware University, Northern University and San Diego Mesa college where she delivered lectures and performances on Indian music for World Music students.
Performance & Recordings
Global Musical Presence and Collaborations
She has contributed to 19 CD recordings (2001-2013), including the acclaimed 6-CD set Swathi, featuring compositions by Sri Swathi Thirunal Maharaja. In addition to her recordings, she authored the book Shyamakrishna Sodari (2003), which includes lyrics and commentary on the Kritis of Shyama Shastri.
K.S. Resmi is also featured in the 4th edition of World Music: A Global Journey by ethnomusicologists Terry Miller and Andrew Shahriari (2016, Routledge). Notably, she became the first woman in the world to be featured on a Kathakali Padams CD with Samyamakannorudyanam (2001).
In the USA, she has performed fusion concerts and recordings with international artists such as Amrit Nataraj, Dennis Haklar, Larry Coryell, N. Scott Robinson, Bob Magnusson, Ranee Ramaswamy, Aparna Ramaswamy, Mark Holland, Dave Ballou, Ramesh Shotham, Bob Boss, Shane Shanahan, Brandon Terzic, David Kuckhermann, Ensemble Datura, Dale Ockerman Project, Oxymora, Yousif Sheronick, Steáfán Hannigan, K S Harisankar, and Stephen Devassy, among others.



Contributions to Indian Arts
K.S. Resmi is a pioneer in online Carnatic music education, founding the world’s first online Karnatic music school in 2006. She also established Karma, Inc. (Karnatic Music America) in 2022 to support Indian arts in the USA.
